I do my best to eat salads pretty regularly. I feel better when I eat them. They’re easy to make. They’re healthy and low carb and just all the good things, you know? 

When I start getting bored of salad for lunch or as a side for dinner,  I start experimenting with salad dressings. 

Currently, I’m on a huge avocado ranch dressing kick! It’s so perfect over any green salad and it’s loaded with all the healthy fats and nutrients you find in avocado. 

Plus, it’s about the only way to get avocado in my kids, which is something I try to do pretty often. 😉 

How to make avocado ranch dressing:

This avocado salad dressing is really simple and uses ingredients that are easy to find…you probably already have most of them on hand!

You’ll need: avocado, buttermilk, sour cream, cilantro, lime, garlic powder, onion powder, dried dill, chili powder, and salt. 

Special equipment needed: This recipe does require the use of either a food processor or blender. 

I use and love this food processor (affiliate link). I use it near daily for things like grating cheese and slicing veggies. 

I use this blender (affiliate link), though I admit that I don’t use it often and it’s probably overkill if you don’t make a lot of smoothies or blended soups. Some people are just blender people and some are not. I’m not, but I do keep one on hand because every now and then I need it!

Another option would be an immersion blender (affiliate link), though I admit I’ve never tried it for this recipe. If you have one hand, I do believe it’d work just fine. 

Just add all of your ingredients to your food processor or blender and blend until smooth and creamy!

This avocado ranch dressing takes about 5 minutes from start to finish.

Keep this dressing tightly covered in a jar in the fridge for up to three days.

Any green salad that you would put ranch dressing on will be delicious with this avocado dressing!

My current favorite is chopped romaine, grilled chicken, halved grape tomatoes, slivers of red onion, and diced bell pepper. 

Feel free to add whatever salad toppings you love!

This dressing also makes a great dip for sliced cucumbers, mini bell peppers, broccoli, and cauliflower!

Is avocado ranch dressing keto friendly?

This salad dressing can be pretty perfect for a keto diet since it’s loaded with healthy fats. 

Swap out the buttermilk for heavy cream if you’re following a strict ketogenic diet and use a mayonnaise that doesn’t contain soybean oil. 

How many carbs in avocado ranch dressing: 

This salad dressing has 4 total carbs and 2 grams of fiber per serving.

A two tablespoon serving of this dressing has 2 net carbs.

Ingredients

  • 1 ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup sour cream
  • 1/4 cup cilantro
  • Juice of 1 lime
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried dill
  • 1 teaspoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Add all of the ingredients to a food processor or blender and blend until smooth.
  2. Store tightly covered in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

If using fresh herbs, double the amount called for.
